GARDEN CITY — Betty Ann (Steinert) Barnes, 71, died April 9, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. Born on Oct. 8, 1942, in Barton County, she was the daughter of Reuben R. and Edna Templing Steinert. In 1960, she graduated from Russell High School. A resident of Garden City since 1988, she was a certified dietician, having worked for the Russell Care Center in Russell. On Oct. 21, 1962, she married Harlan Maier in Milberger. On May 22, 1978, she married Myron Watkins in Russell. On Sept. 25, 2005, she married Ralph Barnes in Garden City. Ralph preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2008 in Garden City.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and a Life Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include, one son, Mark (Jennifer) Maier of Garden City; one brother, Kenny Steinert of Garden City; one sister-in-law, Jolene Steinert of Olmitz; three aunts, Maybelline Karst of Great Bend, Virginia Boxberger and Edna Tittel, both of Russell; her companion, Myron Gillock of Garden City; five drandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Duane Steinert; one son, Monte Maier; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were be held on April 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on April 15, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Milberger. Memorials may be given to the Betty Barnes Memorial Fund in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main, Garden City.
