Bill Hill

Bill Hill, 95, died Nov. 7, 2021, at Brookdale in Great Bend. He was born Dec. 12, 1925 at Newton County, Ark., the son of Harve and Nellie Hill. 

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Hector before going to work in the oil and gas industry. He was proud to have worked for 41 years for Lario Oil & Gas. 

He married Mary (Habiger) Hill Sept. 11, 1950, at Holyrood, Kan. Bill and Mary lived in Ellinwood for many years before moving to rural Ellis County, Kan. in 1978. They moved to Great Bend in 1989. Bill was a scout troop leader in Ellinwood, accompanying the scouts to Camp Kansa, Philmont Scout Ranch and on many other trips. Bill took pride in his family and always stressed to them the importance of education. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing and birdwatching. 

He is survived by three sons and their families, Dr. Lary M. and Diane Hill, Andover; Mark D. Hill and Scarlett Hill, Oakley; Kevin L. Hill and Teresa, Cedar Point; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Chris and Calvin Green, Wichita; Clayton, Carly, Dason, Kyler and Braxton Hill, Seneca; Kathryn Hill and Richard Pund, Overland Park; Shea Hill, Oakley; Cori, Cody, Tait, Maycee, Lakota and Hannah Younkin, Oakley; Jonathan, Amanda, Walter and Wade Hill, Spearfish, South Dakota; Dr. Nellie Hill, Manhattan; Heath Hill and Brynn, Darcy and Haidyn, Americus; and Cassidy Hill of St. George; cousin Johnny Hill and his wife Connie, Western Grove, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Hill; aunt and uncle Gladys and Mose Hill; and cousin Mozelle McBain. 

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., and Vigil service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Memorials have been designated to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
