Bill R. Rowe, 76, died June 24 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 20, 1934, at Winfield, the son of Willis Arthur and Elsie Minerva (Thompson) Rowe.

He married Patricia Joan Sumner June 5, 1954, at Winfield. She died Oct. 28, 2010.

Mr. Rowe had been a Great Bend resident since 1968, coming from Winfield.

He served in the Army National Guard earning the rank of Master Sergeant.

Bill had worked for Slawson Drilling Co. from 1966 until 1988 where he was vice president. He then worked for Commercial Federal Bank until retiring in 1999.

He had served as a Chamber of Commerce Ambassador and board member of First National Bank and attended the First Southern Baptist Church all of Great Bend, and was a member of the Lions Club of Larned. Bill was an avid golfer and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include three sons, Bob Rowe and wife Charlotte of Enid, Okla., Bill Rowe and wife Brenda of Wichita, and Greg Rowe and wife Jo of Great Bend; one daughter, Kris Smolik and husband Ken of Great Bend; nine grandchildren, Misti Schmidt, Bobby Rowe, Aaron Rowe, Jeff Rowe, Ryan Rowe, Stacy Bouse, Marc Rowe, Scott Smolik and Michael Smolik, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in passing by three brothers; Earl, Merle, and Ronnie Rowe, and by four sisters; Helen Doubrava, Shari Richardson, Thelma Buckman, and Lorine Bowlby.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until noon Monday at Bryant Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.
