LARNED — Cecil C. (Sonny) McConnell, 72, died April 16, 2013 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned.
Born Nov. 9, 1940 in Carthage Mo., he was the son of Cecil E. and Sarah L. Moore McConnell.
A lifetime area resident, he was a retired Chief Petty officer in the Navy and a retired truck driver. On Nov. 30, 2008 he married Pauline Haney in St. John. She survives.
Mr. McConnell was of the Christian faith. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a Charter Member of the American Legion Riders and also a member of the Kansas Patriot Guard.
Other survivors include three sons, Todd, Kelly, and Brett McConnell; a daughter, Lori McConnell; two step- sons, Jerry McBride, Fort Hood, Texas, and Michael Tiry, Wichita; a step-daughter, Clarissia Tyerina, Chandler, Ariz.; numerous grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Larry and Darrell McConnell; and four sisters, Delores I. Harris, Sara Bernice Fell, Patricia McConnell and Clara Lineburg.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Larned Cemetery, with military graveside rites. Roger Cooper, a friend, will be presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Pawnee County all Veterans Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
