Charles Russell “Chuck” Parmer, 87, passed away Feb. 22, 2024, at Country Living Memory Care of Larned. He was born on Oct. 1, 1936, in Bascom, Fla. to Gussie and Esther (Jordan) Parmer. He married Carolyn Sue Hopper on April 21, 1960, in Scott City. She died September 9, 2017.
A resident of Great Bend since 1997, Chuck was formerly of Hays. He was a member of the American Legion Post #180, Lake Barton Golf Club First United Methodist Church where he was active as an usher and involved in Sunday School. Chuck was the branch manager for Cen-Kan Supply and American Electric, then later retired from Winnelson Company in 1997. He was a United States Air Force Airman 1st Class, having served from 1958-1963.
Survivors include, a son, Sheldon Parmer and wife Tammy of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Sonya Rein and husband J.D. of Great Bend; three grandchildren, Ali Doyle (Michael), Thomas Rein (Meghan) and Sagan Johnson (Matt); and two great grandchildren, Myla Rein and Bowie Johnson. Also surviving is a sister in law, Martha Parmer of Shorterville, Ala.; Sue’s sister, Joyce Ramsey of Scott City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Branton Parmer; and a sister, Alice Jeanette Lee.
The family will be present to receive friends prior to the service from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 29, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Chaplain Guy Hanna presiding. Military Rites will be conducted by McConnell Air Force Honor Guard.
