PAWNEE ROCK — Clarence “Butch” Roland Johnson, Clarence “Butch” Roland Johnson, 82, of Pawnee Rock, passed away Oct. 31, 2017 in Via Christi Hospital, Wichita.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6 at Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Pastor Regan Scherencel officiating.
Butch was born at Markensen, Wis., to Seymour Johnson and Mildred (Berndt) Johnson Feb. 28, 1935. He attended school in Markensen, Wis. He married Hazel Grace (Crone) Johnson July 30, 1981 in Great Bend. Butch was a real cowboy, riding the rodeo circuit for many years. In 1971, he became an honorary lifetime member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Butch began a lifelong career as a horse farrier in 1950 at the age of 15. Duning the 1960s and 1970s, he worked as a Teamster for the World Circus Museum driving draft horse teams and serving as the farrier for the circus animals. After moving to Kansas, Butch made his living as a self-employed cowboy working feed yard cattle, and later established Butch’s Trash Service.
Butch is survived by his spouse, Hazel Grace Johnson, a sister, Arlene Boeck; a daughter, Debbie Seiwert; step-daughters Sherri Axman, Susan Lippert and Traci Standish; a son, John Johnson and step-son, Robert Levingston, 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Butch is preceded in death by a son, Jim Johnson and a step-daughter, Diane Trimmer.
