Clarence “C. D.” Johnson, 63, died July 25 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1951, at Great Bend, the son of Clarence Harve and Bernadine (Ericks) Johnson. He married Jolene Debes on Oct. 11, 1980, at Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a rural letter carrier for Rural Route 2 for the United States Postal Service, Great Bend, retiring in 2012.
Mr. Johnson was a member of First United Methodist Church, A. F. & A. M. Lodge No. 15, and Barton County 4-H Holding Board past president, all of Great Bend; and Kansas Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was the Kansas Rural Letter Carrier of the Year recipient in 2006.
Survivors include his wife Jolene, of the home; two sons, Eric Johnson and his wife Holly of Great Bend, and Evan Johnson of Newton; one daughter, Adassa Roe and her husband Josh of Manhattan; one brother, Harve Johnson and his wife Roberta of Hutchinson; one sister, Nina Reed and her husband Jerry of Soldier; and one grandchild, Sheridan Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Evers.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell, officiant. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
