DODGE CITY – Clarence E. McConnaughy, 69, died July 9 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City. Born Oct. 8, 1942 in Great Bend, he was the son of Clarence E. McConnaughy Jr. and Martha (Kutnick) McConnaughy. He was a graduate of Fort Hays State University. On Oct. 14, 1961, he married Marsha Hoge in Great Bend. A resident of Dodge City since 1966 moving from Great Bend, he worked for Skaggs, George-Nielson Motors and Dodge City International.
Mr. McConnaughy was active in Boy Scouts and was a lifetime Girl Scout, and a swim teacher and lifeguard for the Dodge City YMCA. He also enjoyed going to the Jamboree at Fort Dodge.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha; son, Kyle McConnaughy and wife Kerry (Wallington) McConnaughy of Omaha, Neb.; a brother Jess McConnaughy of Great Bend; a sister, LaRea Cravens and husband Art of Great Bend; and three grandchildren, Connor, Corey and Kelsey McConnaughy. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Denum, Ralph and Gene Suenram; and a sister Colleen McCurdy.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel in Dodge City with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the chapel. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend, Kansas.
