Coleen A. Murphy, 78, died May 23, 2017, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born Oct. 20, 1938, at Great Bend, the daughter of Ralph and Selenah (Clements) Murphy. A lifetime Great Bend resident, Miss Murphy was employed by Barton County from 1958 until her retirement as County Clerk in 1995. She was a 1956 graduate of Great Bend High School.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed playing bingo and attending family gatherings.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Mary Murphy of Smyrna, Ga.; and a host of nieces and nephews: Dennis Smith and his wife Lee Ann of Bell, Fla.; Sharon Schremmer and her husband Ron of Wichita; Linda Whitt of Hutchinson; Jan Morgenstern and her husband Bob of Hoisington; Terry Smith of Salina; Mary Dumler and her husband Randy of Hoisington; Steve Murphy of Great Bend; Kathleen Asher of Derby; Chad Murphy and his wife Angela of Sterling; and Carrie Dickson and her husband Chris of Smyrna, Ga. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Patrick Murphy and Thomas “Mike” Murphy; one sister, Margaret Smith; one brother-in-law, Bob Smith; one nephew, Mark Smith; one great-niece, Angela Murphy; and one great-nephew, Brian Murphy.
Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m. and vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore celebrating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with Kindred Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
