Darrell O. Batchman, 80, died Dec. 9, 2016, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born July 21, 1936, at Great Bend, he was the son of Alvin Otis and Neva Grace (Stone) Batchman. On Aug. 7, 1955, he married Audrey Ann Geil at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Albert. She died July 27, 2016. A lifetime Barton County resident, Mr. Batchman was electrician group leader for Marlette Homes, worked in preventive maintenance at United Technology (Essex), and retired as an electrician at Larned State Hospital. He was a life-long farmer. He enjoyed dirt bike riding and building radio controlled planes and helicopters and miniature steam engines.
Mr. Batchman was a United States Army Reserve veteran. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, south of Albert, ARRL National Association for Amateur Radio, and area CB radio clubs.
Survivors include one son, Richard Batchman and his wife Debbie of Ellinwood; one sister, Marlene Neuforth of Great Bend; three grandchildren, Christopher Batchman and companion Alexandria Stimpson, Bryce Batchman and his wife Lindsey, and Eric Batchman; seven great-grandchildren, Isaac Stimpson, Bradyn Batchman, Camryn Batchman, Alexander Gage Batchman, Avigeil Batchman, Jack Batchman and Oliver Batchman; and two nephews, Alan Rose and David Rose.
Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Shelly Klingensmith officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m., on Tuesday at the funeral home.
