David D. Ward 1933 - 2019

NORMAN, Okla. — David D. Ward 85, Norman, Okla., died Jan 20, 2019.  He was born Aug 27, 1933, in Great Bend, Kan. to Fred and Willa (Robertson) Ward.

He graduated Great Bend High School in 1952 and entered the Air Force in Feb 1953. Completed duty Feb. 1957 then started career at FAA Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, Oklahoma City in 1957. During his 28 year career with the FAA, David served as aircraft technician, manager, supervisor and spent two years at Yokota AFB, Japan overseeing FAA flight navigation inspections in southeast Asia. In retirement, he worked as a crop-hail insurance adjuster in western Oklahoma and when not working, enjoyed yard work, traveling and collecting and restoring old tube-type radios.

David married Meredith Ann Billingsley on June 7, 1953 in Great Bend. He is survived by his wife of 65 years; son, Linton Ward and wife Grace; daughter, Laura Anderson and husband Randy; granddaughter, Haley Hoover and husband Ben; grandson, Ryan; and great granddaughter Autumn Hoover. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mildred and Dorothy; brothers Eldon and Robert “Bob”.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church, Norman, Okla. on Friday Feb. 1, 2019, at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
