ELLINWOOD — Dolores June (Cook) Nickelson, 86, peacefully passed away at the Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood, Kan., on May 22, 2019.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. May 29, at the Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood, Kan., with burial following at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery. Visitation will be at Minnis Chapel on May 28, from 4-6 p.m.
June was born in Ashland, Kan., June 13, 1932, the daughter of Harrison Lee Cook and Naomi Lillian (Bradley) Cook. She graduated from Coldwater High School and completed two years at Emporia State University where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. Later in life and true to her love of art she completed an Interior Design degree at Arizona State University.
June spent most of her life as a homemaker. While living in Great Bend, she was a member of Panhellenic and Progress Club. She was also a P.E.O. June was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed ceramics, china painting and needlepoint. For those that knew her best, she spoke with her eyes.
June is survived by her children, Lyn Tarcha of Wildwood, Mo., Desa (Terry) Panning of Ellinwood, Kan., and Stuart (Helen) Nickelson of Redmond, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Mom, we’ll miss your smiling eyes!
