GALATIA — Diana Jean Gallegos, 79, of Galatia, Kan. passed away peacefully at her home on May 16, 2021. She was born April 28, 1942 in La Crosse, Kan. to Alex Joseph and Leona (VonFeldt) Engel.

She married the love of her life, Raymond Gallegos, on Dec. 31, 1994 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kan. She attended La Crosse High School and studied cosmetology in Denver, Colo.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kan. and was a volunteer at St. Anne’s Thrift Shop in Marianna, Fla.

She was a manager of many restaurants and clubs throughout the years and was the owner of Backroads Bar & Grill in Galatia, along with her husband, for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond, of the home; one daughter, Saska (Greg) Pfannenstiel of Hays; one son, Joe (Helen) Lewis of Salina; five grandchildren, Jesse (Audrey) Lewis, Danielle Pfannenstiel, and Dalton, Joey and Wyatt Lewis; and five great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Braden, Keaton and Addilyn Lewis and Atlas Lewis; a sister-in-law, Donna Engel Schmidtberger; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father Cyrene Kreutzer; a son, Michael Lewis; three brothers, Hal Michael Engel, Merrill Engel and Duane Engel; and a sister-in-law, Mary Engel.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home and Friday, May 21 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-7 p.m. A Vigil Service and Rosary will be at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 21 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Stephen Dabanka presiding. Interment will follow at La Crosse City Cemetery.
