KATY, Texas — Dixie Lee Stein, 66, died May 20 at her home in Katy, Texas. Born July 25, 1947, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Eldon Howard and Fern Marie (Folkerts) Harper. Raised on her family’s farm in Albert, she graduated from Fort Hays State University. On June 15, 1968, she married Dean LeRoy Stein in Albert. The couple lived in Duncan, Okla., Enid, Okla., and Oklahoma City, Okla.; Springfield, Mo., Paducah, Ky., and Lubbock, Texas, prior to moving to Katy, Texas, in 2013 to be closer to their daughters and grandson.
A devoted wife and mother who focused her energy on her family, Mrs. Stein put the needs of others above her own. She was actively involved in the PTA when her daughters were in school, and she loved caring for the many stray dogs and cats she adopted. Her hobbies included keeping up with current events, reading, traveling, sewing, and crafting.
Survivors include her husband, Dean LeRoy Stein, of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Jo Stein of Katy, Texas, and Michelle Suzanne Stein of Houston, Texas; one brother, Duane E. Harper of Waucoma, Iowa; and one grandson, Adam Harper Stein. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Dennis Harper.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Albert with the Rev. Patricia Reep officiating. Burial will be at the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Albert. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, at Bryant Funeral Home.
