GREAT BEND — Don C. Appel, 70, died August 14, 2011 at Wesley Towers Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.
He was born February 8, 1941 at Great Bend, the son of David and Marie Margaret (Behrens) Appel. He married Laren Townsdin November 4, 1962 at Dodge City.
Mr. Appel was owner and operator of Don’s Welding. He was a Great Bend resident since 1962, coming from Pawnee Rock. He served in the Kansas National Guard. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed racing, animals, snow skiing and football.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Appel, of the home; a son Mike Appel and fiancee Kim, Hutchinson; two daughters, Gayle Fellin, Denver, Colo.; and Janell Crosley and husband Jason, Hutchinson; and four grandchildren.  
A prayer service is scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Bryant Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 18, at Peace Lutheran Church, south of Albert, with Officiant Pastor Patricia Reep. Interment will be at Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery, Albert.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bryant Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church, Elder Care or Golden Belt Home Health, in care of the Bryant Funeral Home.
