LUBBOCK, Texas — Donald A. Riegel, 86, died June 20. He was born Jan. 29, 1926, at Great Bend, the son of Virgil and Harriet Riegel. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1944, served the United States military in Korea in 1946, and then attended college at Kansas State University in Manhattan.
He married Wilma J. Brining of Great Bend on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1948. His career began as a dairy farmer with his father at Riegel and Son Dairy in Great Bend. Later, he became a Farm Bureau Agent in Artesia, N.M.  He also pursued several other business endeavors including co-ownership of Always 98, a dollar store in Lubbock, Texas, with his son David.  
Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of 63 years; a sister Dot Dalbom Bowline of Lawrence; four children, Karen Schneider  and husband, Steve, of Amarillo, Texas, Bruce Riegel of Austin, Texas, David Riegel and wife, Linda, of Lubbock, Texas, and Daryl Riegel and wife, Pam, of Temple, Texas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 25, at Sanders Funeral Home in Lubbock. Burial will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to “Beyond” building fund at Trinity Church, Lubbock, or charity of choice.
