OSAWATOMIE — Donald D. Smith, 85, died Oct. 29 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe. He was born Sept. 16, 1925, at Hoisington, the son of Clarence and Callie (Payne) Smith. He married Etta Imogene Lumley on June 5, 1953, at Bartlesville, Okla. She died Oct. 9, 2004. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Kansas Brick and Tile of Hoisington. He was a former Hoisington resident, moving to Osawatomie in 2004.
Mr. Smith was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hoisington.
Survivors include one son, M.D. Smith of Osawatomie; one daughter Janice Oelschlaeger of Lawrence; one brother, LeRoy Smith of Hoisington; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Alan Arbogast.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kris Brinlee officiant. Interment will be at the Hoisington Cemetery, with a military flag presentation by VFW Post 7428 and American Legion Post No. 286.
