ST. JOHN — Donald D. Wornkey, age 86, passed away on July 20, 2022 at Kenwood Plaza, St. John, Kan. He was born on Jan. 10, 1936 in Caney, Kan., the son of Roy D. and Maxine (Kilgore) Wornkey. He had previously farmed and worked at St. John National Bank. He was a retired maintenance supervisor and bus driver for USD-350 Schools and a St. John resident since 1966. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, former Sunday School teacher serving on various Church Boards, Second Mile Food Bank and the St. John Lions Club.  

On Mar. 17, 1954 he married Marlene M. (Pohlman) at Lewistown, Mont., she survives. Other survivors include a son, Don Wornkey, Jr. (Aurie), Hutchinson, Kan.; a daughter, Carolyn Boles (Kent), Wichita, Kan.; four brothers, Jerry Wornkey, Scottsbluff, Neb., Tom Wornkey (Chris) Ellinwood, Kan., Steve Wornkey, Ellinwood, Kan., Tim Wornkey (Pam) Ellinwood, Kan.; a sister, Pam Nowak, Holcomb, Kan.; three grandchildren, Angela McGuire (Clint), Travis Boles (Gayle), Garrett Wornkey (Brooke); 9 great grandchildren, Cali, Brendan, Hunter, Alexia, Madison, Katelyn, Reese, Creighton, Declan and one expected in August. He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Jim Wornkey. 

Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with family present from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Minnis Chapel, St. John, Kan., with Leroy Lyon presiding. Burial will follow in the Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood, Kan. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or Kindred Hospice in care of Minnis Chapel, Box 34, St. John, KS.  67576.
