Donald Gene "Fergy" Ferguson, 74, died Sept. 3 at his Great Bend home. He was born June 21, 1936 at Hardy, Arkansas, the son of Forest and Doris (Richardson) Ferguson. He married Opal McKnight May 19, 1955 at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident for sixty years, coming from Wichita, Kansas, Mr. Ferguson was owner and operator of Fergy’s Enterprises, which he started June 21, 1978. He retired from his love of driving his loader in 2009.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Ferguson, of the home; his mother, Doris Kisner-Ferguson, Great Bend; two sons: Darwin Ferguson, Great Bend; and Daryl Ferguson and wife Sharon, Great Bend; one daughter, Diann Garcia and husband Jose, Perryton, Texas; three sisters: Shirley Detter, Hoisington, Kansas; Carolyn Abercrombie, Great Bend; and Debbie Ferguson, Joplin, Missouri; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Forest Ferguson; one daughter, Donna Sue Ferguson; three brothers, Hayden Ferguson, Bill Ray Ferguson, and Dale Ferguson; and one daughter-in-law, Stacy Ferguson.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Don Paden officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m., Monday, with the family receiving friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Memorials are requested to Barton County Relay for Life or Barton County Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
