Donald L. McAllister 1929 - 2013

ST. JOHN — Donald L. McAllister, 84, passed away Nov. 2, at South Wind Hospice House in Pratt. Born on Feb. 18, 1929, in rural Stafford County, he was the son of Joseph and Sabina Isabell (Stodgsdill) McAllister. He graduated from Fort Hays State University receiving his teacher’s degree. On June 4, 1953, he married Helen M. Gerstenkorn in Great Bend. She passed away in 1973. He then married Lynda L. Crissman on Jan. 20, 1979, in St. John. She survives of the home. A resident of St. John since 1982, coming from the Radium and Seward area, he was a retired farmer and sold real estate for Keller Real Estate in Great Bend for 25 years.
Mr. McAllister served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Eden Valley Church of the Brethren, past president of the Radium CO-OP and St. John Booster Club.   
Other survivors include, two sons and six daughters, Carey McAllister (Sandra), of Macksville, Timarie Walters (Ron), of Hudson, Clayton McAllister (Nancy), of Great Bend, Janet McKemy (Stephen), of Houston, Texas, Kayla Clowers, of Macksville, Jamie Keiter (Michael), of Ottawa, Cassie Blakeslee of St. John, and Melissa McAllister (Eric Hermanns), of Smith Center; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, LuAnne McAllister; a brother, Orville McAllister; and six sisters, Mildred Durant, Wanita Baker, Eulita Fox, Margaret Savoy, Dorothy Schilling and Bernice Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, at the IOOF Lodge in St. John with Pastor Tom Harrison presiding. Burial will follow at the Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Eden Valley Church of the Brethren, South Wind Hospice or donor’s choice, all in care of the funeral home.
