TOPEKA — Donald R. Haberman, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Dec. 27. Don was born on May 14, 1944, in Great Bend, the son of Alex and Augusta (Koriel) Haberman. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1962, from Fort Hays State University with his bachelor’s degree in 1966 and with his master’s degree in industrial arts in 1969. Don was united in holy matrimony to Rosanne Horning on July 18, 1970, in Ransom.
Don began his military service in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1966. He participated in the Honor Guard of President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s funeral and was discharged as a Lieutenant in 1972. Don was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka as a maintenance planner from 1969 until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Topeka. He was also a member of the Topeka MG Car Club and president of Central States Hart Parr Oliver Collector Association from 2007 until his death.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; son, Brandon and Tionna Haberman of Holly Springs, N.C.; and daughter, Kourtney Haberman of Ft. Myers, Fla.; grandchildren Landon and Oliver Haberman of Holly Springs, N.C.; sister, Bernadine and Robert Hammeke of Rozel; brothers, Alvin and Martha Haberman of Great Bend, and Maurice and Patricia Haberman of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A family rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and a prayer service will follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the church, and burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
