BURDETT — Dora May Cooley, 87, passed away June 11, 2016, at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley. Born Nov. 8, 1928, in Larned, she was the daughter of James Carl and Nellie Taylor Northern. On June 7, 1947, she married Verle Cooley in Larned. He passed away Oct. 11, 2003. A lifetime area resident, she was retired from the Larned State Hospital.
Mrs. Cooley was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Burdett and the Women’s Bowling Association.
Survivors include, a son, Dean (Judy) Cooley, of Wichita; three daughters, Verlene (Kenny) George, of Scott City, Rosa (LaVern) Boese, of Great Bend, and Regina (Clayton) Akers, of Burdett; a brother Clarence Northern of Fairfield, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, James Jr., Earl, Billie and Delmar Northern; and a sister, Carlene Ziegler.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Brown’s Grove Cemetery in Burdett with Pastor Brad McCoy presiding. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials may be sent to the Burdett EMS in care of the funeral home.
