Dorothy “Dot” Burt, 97, died Nov. 15 at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson. She was born August 19, 1916, in Navarre, the daughter of Harvey Gamon and Emma (Rhodes) Wingerd. Dorothy graduated from Chapman High School 1934 and then Emporia State College in 1939, where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha.
Dorothy was a housewife and a substitute teacher. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend in which she was very active. Currently she was a member of the Mount Olivet Worship Center, Hutchinson.
On July 9, 1940, she married Curran Dennis Tuggle(deceased). She then married Marion Alton Burt on August 4, 1982. He died January 29, 1998.
Survivors include: children, Luanne Haddaway and husband Kenn of Hutchinson, Natalee McVay and husband Lonnie of Ponca City, Okla.; grandchildren, Mike Sutherland and wife Michelle of Wichita, Kim Sutherland of Denver, Colo., Kelly Dalke, David Roe and wife Meghan all of Lyons, and Laurissa Drew and husband David of Beaver, Okla.; brother, Winston Wingerd and wife Katherine of Hot Springs, Ark.; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Vernon, Allen, Eldon, Kenneth, and Keith Wingerd; sisters, Arlene Foulk and Fern Kukuk.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m., Friday at Great Bend Cemetery with Pastor Kenn Haddaway presiding. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with family to receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
