Douglas Dean Shelton 1948-2014

GREAT BEND – Douglas Dean Shelton, 65, died  Oct. 17, 2014 at his home in Great Bend.
He was born Dec. 4, 1948 at Great Bend, the son of Raymond Dean and Joyce Phyllis (Beal) Shelton.
He married Shelly Beth Freeman Jan. 16, 1970 at Great Bend. He worked as a foreman for Farley Machine Works, Co. from 1973 to 2013, retiring as the foreman. Mr. Shelton was a lifetime Great Bend resident. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam conflict, serving aboard the USS Mauna Kea and the USS Midway. He was a member of American Legion Argonne Post 180 and the United States Bowling Congress. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bowler as well as loved drag racing. Above all else, he loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Shelly Beth Shelton, of the home; his mother, Joyce Shelton, Great Bend; a son, Jason Shelton and his wife Jenny, Wilson; a daughter, Tasha DiLoreto and her husband Dan, Wichita; two sisters, Melody Cell and her husband Sam, Bazine; Sharon Wondra and her husband Harold, Great Bend;
two sisters-in-law, Rhonda Shelton, Great Bend; and Michelle Shelton, Salina; seven grandchildren, Jarod Shelton, Jena Shelton, Trista Shelton, McKenzie King, Lexus King, Danny DiLoreto, and Austin McGinnes and his wife Kayla.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Shelton, and two brothers, Mike Shelton and Rick Shelton.
Funeral Service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home with The Reverend John Grummon officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery with military rites by United States Navy Honor Guard.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial Funds can be sent to the St. Rose Foundation for the Benefit of the Heartland Cancer Center, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
