Doyle D. Folkerts, 84, died Jan. 13 at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. Born March 21, 1928 at Rush County, he was the son of Carl and Anna Marie (Steitz) Folkerts.
Mr. Folkerts was a lifetime Barton County resident. He married Ina L. Minson Oct. 24, 1952 at Syracuse, Kansas. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He became a drilling superintendent which he continued until retirement. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ina L. Folkerts, of the home; four sons: Greg Wyrick and his wife Cheryl of Grand Lake, Okla., Byron Folkerts and his wife Robin of Derby, Randall Folkerts and his wife Mary of Pawnee Rock, and Darren Folkerts of the home; four daughters: Willena Baker of Tulsa, Okla., Karen Johnston of Oswego, Lori Ediger and her husband Ron of McPherson, and Lisa Cervantes and husband Joe of Parsons. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two infant brothers and two sisters, Wilma Unruh and Ethel Jurgensen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend with the Rev. James A. Strasen officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the Doyle Folkerts Funeral Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
