Doyle Gene Boyd 1935 - 2014


TOPEKA — Doyle “Gene” Boyd, 78, passed away May 30, 2014 at a local hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1935, in Holdenville, Okla., he was the son of Lige and Etta (Cummings) Boyd. He graduated from Wewoka High School in Wewoka, Okla. and later attended Junior college in Gainesville, Texas. On March 24, 1957, he married Helen Blakeslee in Great Bend. She survives. He was self-employed, owning restaurants, nursing homes and car dealerships, and also worked as a financial advisor.
Mr. Boyd was a member of the First Assembly of God Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Other survivors include their children, Tammie (Milton) Dowty, Wichita; Matthew Boyd, Los Angeles, Calif.; Aaron Boyd, Lomita, Calif.; and Stanley (Christine) Boyd, Bangalore, India; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Joy McCracken, Sacramento, Calif.; and a brother, Donald Boyd, Bakersfield, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Gene will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Asha Ka India Inc., in care of the First Assembly of God Church, 500 SW 27th, Topeka, KS, 66611.
