Doyle “Gene” Boyd, 78, Topeka, passed away May 30 at a local hospital. Gene was born Sept.16, 1935 in Holdenville, Okla., the son of Lige and Etta (Cummings) Boyd. He graduated from Wewoka High School in Wewoka, Okla. and later attended junior college in Gainesville, Texas.
He was self-employed, owning restaurants, nursing homes and car dealerships; and also worked as a financial advisor. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Gene married Helen Blakeslee on March 24, 1957 in Great Bend.
She survives. Other survivors include their children, Tammie (Milton) Dowty, Wichita, Matthew Boyd, Los Angeles, Calif., Aaron Boyd, Lomita, Calif., Stanley (Christine) Boyd, Bangalore, India; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Joy McCracken, Sacramento, Calif.; and brother, Donald Boyd, Bakersfield, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 at First Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Gene will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road from 2-5 p.m. on Friday.
