HOISINGTON — Edward Allen Ruble, 97, died March 19, 2017, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born May 12, 1919, in Hoisington, he was the son of William Monroe and Blanche Grace (Clift) Ruble. In 1938 he graduated from Hoisington High School. He then worked in construction for the Works Progress Administration, helping to build Hoisington High School, before joining the Army. When returning home he worked in the oil fields for D.H. Cook and Company.
Mr. Ruble was a World War II veteran of the Pacific Theater, serving in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945, as Field Lineman for the First Signal Troop. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a niece, Jo Ann Doan of Hays; cousins, Patricia “Pat” Cook and Larry Ruble, both of Hoisington, Tom Ruble of Tomball, Texas, Henry “Hank” Ruble of Great Bend, Ellen Shanteau of St. John, Geraldine “Gerry” Carper and Mark Ruble, both of Great Bend; a great-niece and nephew, Pamela Roye and Alan Doan, both of Waxahachie, Texas; and many other distant relatives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard L. Ruble; and a sister, Betty J. Byers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Celeste Lasich presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington Cemetery with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Family will greet friends starting at 9:30 a.m. just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kindred Hospice or Friendship Meals in care of the funeral home.
