TULSA, OKLA. — Edward August Fleske was born July 24, 1920 to August and Anna (Knoche) Fleske on the family farm just north of Larned. He passed from this life at the age of 91 on Dec. 26, in Tulsa, Okla. where he moved in 2007 with his wife, Alma Beth to be closer to family. Edward graduated from Larned High School and the Hemphill Diesel School in Chicago. He married Alma Beth Fox on Aug. 10, 1941 and worked as a farmer and stockman in Pawnee County for over 60 years. Edward and Alma Beth enjoyed traveling and they took many trips that included Germany, Australia, New Zealand and most of the United States.
Mr. Fleske was a charter member of the Grace Lutheran Church and a member of the Garfield School, Garfield Co-op and Farmers Union boards.
Edward was the eldest of four boys and was preceded in death by Walter and Elmer. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Alma Beth; four children, Mary Ann Meckfessel and her husband, Charles of Tulsa, Okla., John Fleske and his wife, Janice of Pittsburg, Louis Fleske and his wife, Jo Anne of Colorado Springs, Colo., and David Fleske and his wife, Gwen of Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Leonard and his wife, Mary of Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Betty Fleske of Larned; and many nephews and nieces.
No services are planned in Tulsa, Okla., but a memorial service will be held in Larned in January. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute in Edward’s memory to Grace Lutheran Church, 524 Carroll Ave, Larned, KS 67550.
