LA CROSSE — Edwin B. Menzer Jr. 68, La Crosse, Kan., died Monday, June 24th at Rush County Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Olmitz, Kan., Cemetery.
Ed was born July 17, 1950 in Hoisington, Kan., to Edwin B. (Mitch) and Helen D. Menzer. He attended St. Anne’s Catholic School in Olmitz and Otis Rural High School. Ed had several jobs over the years. Most would know him from his time at Marlette Manufacturing and proprietor of the Royal Tavern. Ed could always be found at Granny’s Speed Shop where he spent time tinkering on anything with a motor. Friends and strangers alike often stop by for a cold beer and assistance or advice for their vehicle. After experiencing several health related issues, Ed made his residence at Locust Grove Village La Crosse, Kan. There he began and maintained a great community relationship with many residents and staff members, taking great pride as an honorary member of the Red Hats as well as enthusiastically hoisting the American flag each morning.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul Menzer. He is survived by two sons, Curt and Trai Menzer; his sisters Yvonne West, Anna Wiley, Dorothy Goodman, and Sue Menzer as well as brothers Alan (Buck), Ron, David, John and Mike (Pinky) Menzer; and many nieces and nephews. With deep gratitude the family would like to thank the staff at Locust Grove Village, and a special thanks to Janousek Funeral Home, Lacrosse, Kan. The family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice.
