ELLINWOOD — Edwin Leroy Stoppel, 86, passed away on Nov. 21, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born June 16, 1928, in Wilson, he was the son of Chris and Clara (Hilgenberg) Stoppel. Edwin worked as a carpenter for most of his life, helping to build skyscrapers and other buildings all throughout Colorado.
Mr. Stoppel was a member of the Carpenters Union.
Survivors include a sister, Elsie Rude; two sons, Michael Brewer, Ellinwood, and Richard Brewer, Castle Rock, Colo.; three daughters, Debbie Sheldon and Rebecca Smith, both of Ellinwood, and Christi Maes of Denver, Colo.; and 19 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elva (Clark) Stoppel; two brothers, Adam Stoppel and Carl Stoppel; a sister, Maria Funk; a son, Ronald Wood; a daughter, Linda Wood; and grandchild, Rick Wells.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood, with Pastor Curt Reinhardt presiding. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the “Wounded Warrior Foundation” in care of the funeral home.
