Elmer L. Showalter 1921 - 2014

HOLYROOD — Elmer L. Showalter, 93, passed away Sept. 23, 2014 in Ellsworth.
Born June 10, 1921, in Emporia, he was the son of Ella Showalter.  Living in Holyrood since 1957, he worked for Ferrell-Stamback where he did roustabout and dirt work.
Mr. Showalter was a United States Navy Veteran and served in the Pacific during World War II on the USS Alabama. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and the American Legion Post 200 in Holyrood.     
Survivors include his sons, Richard, Holyrood; Dennis, Pacifica, Calif.; and Jerry, Chapman; and David,  Foster City, Calif.; daughters, Judi Rust, Wichita and Ellen Janssen, Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and mother, Ella (Showalter) McCumber.  
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holyrood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Parsons Funeral Home, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holyrood, in care of the funeral home.
