Elmer ‘Leon’ Anglin (77), of Kansas, passed away on July 25, 2023. He was surrounded by the caring staff of the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kan.
Leon was born on July 24, 1946 to Elmer and Velma Anglin in Augusta, Kan. Leon lived all over Kansas and graduated from Ellinwood High School in Ellinwood, Kan. He was a strong patriot and protector. He spent 10 years in the US Navy, including two tours in Vietnam. After the military, Leon spent the next 30 years in various law enforcement roles including 10 years with the Wichita Police Department, and many various roles as an investigator for the State of Kansas. He was chosen to represent Kansas as a security guard at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. Leon was a great KC Royals fan and loved to attend games with his family and friends when he had season tickets. Since 2015, Leon was a resident of the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kan.
Leon is survived by his five children, Tracie Woodbury of Augusta, Me., Lisa Circle of Olathe, Kan., Audra Richardson of Overland Park, Kan., Kolin Anglin of Wichita, Kan., and Kerry Anglin of Louisburg, Kan. He is also survived by his two sisters, Louise Boucher of Bel Aire, Kan. and Lois Millison of Ft. Worth, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Velma of Augusta, Kan. He was always proud of his 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Leon’s family will host a memorial service on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023 at 1 p.m. The service will be at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta, Kan. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to either Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnel To Towers in Leon’s name. Private family burial at Fort Scott National Cemetery to be held at a later date.
