HOISINGTON — Emerson J. Davis, 80, passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at the Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. He was born March 2, 1934, on the homestead in rural Galatia, Kan., the son of David and Lena (Hester) Davis. He attended school at Hoisington and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Newkirk on Oct. 8, 1953. He was a truck driver for Kansas Brick and Tile for many years, later working for Albion Township.
He was a member of the Hoisington Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and recently enjoyed riding his scooter around Hoisington.
Survivors include his wife Betty, of the home; two sons, Jeff Davis (Lisa), and Dave Davis (Carla Rodie), both of Great Bend; one daughter, Rebecca Vonfeldt, Edmond, Okla.; one sister, Kay Ree Johnson (Larry), Great Bend; two brothers, Albert Davis, Hoisington; and Wayne Davis (Donna), Weatherford, Okla.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and “little lap dog” Mitzi. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Arnold Davis, Richard Davis, Evan Davis, and Russell Davis, and one sister, Geneva Davis.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, with the Rev. Roy Savage officiating. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends, 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
