GREAT BEND — Esther E. Jenkins, 83, died Jan. 15, 2012 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.
She was born June 17, 1928 at rural Otis, the daughter of Jesse Thomas and Amelia (Schlegel) Queen.
She married Bill Franklin Jenkins Nov. 25, 1945 at Hoisington. He died June 19, 1983. She worked in food preparation for the USD 428 Central Kitchen and as a nurse’s aide. Mrs. Jenkins was a lifetime Barton County resident. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She collected horse figurines and was especially proud of her bread-baking ability.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Jenkins, Great Bend; and John Jenkins and wife Sharon, Hoisington; a brother, James Queen, Great Bend; two sisters, Garnetta Blair and her husband Kenny, Great Bend; and Marjorie Adams, Great Bend; six grandchildren, Heather Reed, Jody Ramos, Alicia Jenkins, Michael Jenkins, Clyde Jenkins, Andrew Jenkins; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Queen; three grandsons, Jack Jenkins, Jr., Jeffrey Jenkins, and Jason Jenkins; great grandson Triston Jenkins and great granddaughter Brianna King.
A Funeral Service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 at the Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Dick Ogle officiating. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the Bryant Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Bryant Funeral Home.
Memorials can be sent the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the Bryant Funeral Home.
