Esther Ruth Boxberger, 90, died Oct. 12, 2017, at Almost Home, Great Bend. She was born June 18, 1927, at Hoisington, to Alexander and Lydia (Streck) Lust.
Esther married Frederick “Fritz” Boxberger Jan. 16, 1949, at Hoisington. He died July 5, 1994.
A lifetime resident of Hoisington, Esther was a homemaker and member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hoisington.
Esther raised generations of children. She was known for having a house full of kids while cooking, crafting, and supporting her kids and grandkids at their sporting events. She loved her Hoisington Cardinals and Royals too! She was an excellent cook and was known to spoil the whole family with traditional German food, Christmas candy and whatever an iron skillet could hold! Her sewing talents were respected by many, and she could save the day with a needle and thread. She left her legacy in the love she had for her family. She was known as “Grandma Boxberger” by all, and everyone believed they were her favorite.
Survivors include five sons, Steven Boxberger and wife Deborah of Canyon, Texas, and LaVern Boxberger and wife Roxie, Gary Boxberger and wife Barb, Tim Boxberger and wife Rhonda, and Bill Boxberger and wife Amy, all of Hoisington; three daughters, Barbara Demel and husband Mark, Karen Riedl and husband Mike, and Kathy Jonas and husband Steve, all of Hoisington; daughter-in-law Arletta Juergens of Ridgway, Colo.; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fritz; a son, Stanley Boxberger; two brothers, Leo Lust and Elmer Lust; and a great-grandchild, Damian Hanson.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hoisington. Prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington with the Rev. Wayne Baldyga, officiant. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Interment will be in Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington.
