Ethel Steele Williamson Glass 1914 - 2017

HOISINGTON — Ethel Steele Williamson Glass, 102, died July 2, 2017, at Country Place Senior Living in Hoisington. She was born Sept. 11, 1914, at Belvue, the daughter of Harry N. and Florence M. (Duerstein) Steele. Ethel graduated from Wamego High School in 1932. She attended Emporia State College for two years and then taught in a one room school for a year at White Chapel School in Potawatamie County. Ethel then moved to Hoisington and did office work in both Great Bend and Hoisington, with her last job being secretary for Peel Brothers Drilling. Ethel was also employed for the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco for two years while her husband, Milby “Bub” was serving in the South Pacific. Ethel married Milby V. “Bub” Williamson on July 25, 1936, in Hoisington. He passed away on May 24, 1977. She later married Andrew J. Glass on January 2, 1979, in Wichita. He passed away on July 4, 1997.
She is survived by, cousins, James Steele of DeRidder, La., Joe Steele of Gravette, Ark., and Mary Lou Simmons of Ingleside, Texas; and longtime companions and friends, Jean Herrman of Great Bend, and Delphine Hickey of Hoisington. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and a sister, Anna Rebecca Butler.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Hoisington City Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Reuben Lang ‘at presiding. Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or donor’s choice, in care of the funeral home.
