Eugene Gene Jacobs 1930 - 2014


LA CROSSE — Eugene “Gene” Jacobs, 83, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at his home.
Born June 28, 1930, in rural Bison, he was the son of Casper and Mary (Schmidt) Jacobs. He attended Lone Star School. A lifelong resident of Rush County, he was a grain operator at the Bison Co-op, where he retired after 20 years of employment. On July 20, 1963, he married Rosie K. Stejskal in Loretto. She preceded him in death June 22, 2004.
Mr. Jacobs was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Sixty Plus Club, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3147, all of La Crosse.
Survivors include, two sons, Nick G. Jacobs, Great Bend; and Michael D. Jacobs, Larned; a daughter, Jacquelin S. Moses, Alta Vista; seven brothers, Celestine Jacobs, Ralph Jacobs, LeRoy Jacobs, and Bill Jacobs, all of La Crosse; Virgil Jacobs, Great Bend; Daniel Jacobs, Wichita; and Jerry Jacobs, Hays; two sisters, Elenora Holzmeister, Quinter; and Mary Lou Warren, Wichita; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and four sisters, Leona Leiker, Albina Birney, Louise Besperat, and Viola Dreher.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse with Father Matthew Kumi officiating.  Interment will be at the La Crosse City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m.  A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Friendship Meals in La Crosse.
