LYONS — Eunice McPherson Braden, 98, died May 12 at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons.
She was born Nov. 11, 1912 in rural Lyons, the daughter of Grover Ward and Carrie C. Shumway, McPherson. In 1929, she graduated from Lyons High School. She earned her teaching certificate from Sterling College.
A resident of Lyons since 1992, formerly of Bushton, Buhler and Ellinwood, she was a homemaker and former bookkeeper. On Nov. 24, 1932, she married Gene E. Braden in Lyons. He died on Jan. 17, 1996.
Mrs. Braden was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, both in Lyons, Mutual Improvement club in Bushton, and Rice County Democrats.
Survivors include a son, J. Steven Braden, San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Jay Braden and Katherine Stein; a great-grandchild, Natalie; two nieces, Cynthia Shaw, Lawrence; and Janice Phillips, Nashville, Tenn. She was preceded in death by a sister, Naomi Hope Buel.
Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Lyons with the Rev. Dr. Quentin Bennett officiating. Burial will be at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
