Evan John Charles

HAYS — On Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020, Evan John Charles, son, grandson, brother and friend, passed on from this world.

Evan was born on March 8, 1990 in Salina, Kan., to John and Mandy Charles. He was a 2008 graduate of Hays High School and attended Fort Hays State University, majoring in Media Studies.

Evan had many passions and loved his family and friends above all else. He enjoyed disc golf, playing basketball, road trips with dad, listening to music, watching sports (especially KSU football) and spending time with those he cared about.

He is survived by his parents John, Republic, Kan., mother, Mandy (Troy Schroeder), Albert, Kan.; grandmothers, Jean Charles of Republic, Kan. and Fay Renner, Bull Shoals, Ark.; sister Hayley, Denver, Colo.; brother Hayes (Keri) and nieces Olwyn Fay and Melanie May, Coon Rapids, Iowa; Aunt Flo (Kevin) Graham, Yacolt, Wash.; uncles Joe Brian Renner (Laura), Bull Shoals, Ark., and Stephen Renner, Springfield, Mo.; and cousins Hayden Graham and Healey Graham, Seattle, Wash., Katie (Dimitri) Kricfalusi, Springfield, Mo., Levi Renner, Springfield, Mo., Dane Petersen (Jill Nienhiser), Kansas City, Mo., and Christie (Sunny) Kairos and children Catie Eubank and Jackson Eubank, Portland, Ore.

Evan was the type of person that others liked immediately; a kind human with the biggest heart. Once a part of his life, he would care for you always. He didn’t know a stranger and could strike up an authentic conversation with anyone. His intelligence and dry sense of humor were both admired and appreciated. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Please join family and friends to remember Evan at West Frontier Park this Friday, Sept. 18th at 2 p.m. In line with Evan’s laid-back nature, casual attire is welcome and encouraged, and the family expects masks to be worn and social distancing to be observed; please be responsible and respectful in doing so. Limited seating will be provided by the church, so please bring a lawn chair and/or blanket.

Attendees are invited to stay after to spend time together and share memories of Evan. The family requests donations be made to the City of Hays Parks Department, PO Box 490, Hays, KS 67601, to be allocated for the Frontier Park disc golf course, or to Kansas State Athletics, Bramlage Coliseum, 1800 College Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502, to establish a scholarship fund.
