Evelyn L. Tegarden  1921-2011
Evelyn L. Tegarden, 90, died April 16 at Great Bend Regional Hospital.
She was born March 10, 1921 at Stockton, Kansas, the daughter of Jessie L. and Lila (Fetterolf) Hulse. She married Glen O. Tegarden Dec. 17, 1949 at Russell. He died March 4, 2003.
Mrs. Tegarden was a Great Bend resident since 1949 coming from Stockton. In 1949, she was the first female to work at the Great Bend Dairy Queen. She was later employed as a waitress for 22 years at  the Holiday Inn and Convention Center, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She loved to crochet baby blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured spending time with her family and friends. She loved to write letters to her family.
Survivors include two sons, Howard Johnson and wife, Cathy, Great Bend; Gary Johnson and wife, Sarah, North Highlands, Calif.; three daughters, Judy Pulec, Glenda Zimmerman and husband, Richard, and Carol Elliott and husband, John, all of Great Bend; one sister, Edna Johnson, Stockton; 19 grandchildren, Rick Love, Rodger Love, Jr., Shannon Love-Prester, Jason Elliott, Chad Elliott, Kristi DeWitt, Gary Lee Johnson, John Johnson, Trisha Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, Rhonda Snodgrass, Shondria Higgins, Leesa Maupin, LaDonna Kipler, Stephanie Strunk, Renae Strunk, Joey Espinosa, Teddy Espinosa and John Espinosa; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lila Irene Strunk; five brothers, Dean Hulse, Johnnie Hulse, Lloyd Hulse, Edward Hulse and Merle Hulse; and three sisters, Grace Watkins, Lillian Snider and Edith Smith.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 20 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Josh Foster, officiating. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at the Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
