BUSHTON — Father James J. Roth, 95, died Nov. 7, 2015, at Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire. Born Sept. 23, 1920, near Deerfield, he was the son of Joseph and Christina A. Schaefer Roth. He received his Theology Degree, from Conception Seminary in Missouri. A resident of Bushton for 51, years, retiring to Claflin in 1998, later moving to Wichita, he was a retired life-long Catholic Priest for the Wichita Diocese, serving at Holy Name Catholic Parish rural Bushton for 51 years.
Father Roth was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Bushton, St. Joseph Knights of Columbus Council # 1187 of Ellinwood and Coronado Assembly # 285 of the 4th Degree in Great Bend.
Survivors include 14 nieces and six nephews; and many great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Joseph Roth Jr., John Roth, George Roth, Adam Roth, Elmer Roth, Clarence Roth; and sister, Barbara Eakes, and infant sisters Katherine Roth and Anna Roth.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita. Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, with Knights of Columbus Rosary at Holy Name Catholic Church, followed by burial at the Holy Name Cemetery in rural Bushton. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita where a Vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Priest Retirement Center or Holy Name Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
