Fidelis "Dale" Degenhardt 1929 - 2013

HAYS — Fidelis “Dale” Degenhardt, 84, died July 16 at the Golden Living Home in Wilson. Born July 1, 1929, in Pfeifer, he was the son of John and Emma (Basgall) Degenhardt. On Sept. 22, 1947, he married Edna Cantwell in Pfeifer. He was the service manager for Hartman Oil for many years.
Mr. Degenhardt served his country with the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Marine Corps League, the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Cantwell, of Hays; two daughters, Mary Rohr and Amy Degenhardt, both of Hays; two brothers, John Degenhardt and Adolph Degenhardt, both of Hays; two grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Victor and Sylvester; and two sisters, Regina Basgall and Alvina Bieker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays. Burial, with military honors by the Hays VFW and Marine Corps League, will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Pfeifer.  
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. A parish vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Hays VFW and American Legion, in care of the funeral home.
