Francis D. Huffman, 70, longtime Great Bend resident, passed away on Aug. 31, 2014 at his Great Bend home.
Born on Jan. 25, 1944, at Anaconda, Mont., he was the son of Marvin J. and Eva V. (McCart) Huffman.
He served as a cook in the United States Army in his early years. On June 18, 1984, he was united in marriage to Laura A. Phillips in Great Bend. He worked on bridge construction prior to his retirement, and in his later years he enjoyed going to Ampride and drinking soda with his many friends. Francis had a true passion for animals, especially “Baby Girl” Chihuahua.
Survivors include a step-son, Charles H. Kepford and his wife, Tammy, Wichita; three step-daughters, Rita K. Rowe, Great Bend; Karen D. Kepford, Larned; and Laura L. Kepford, Oceanside, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jeremiah “Jerry” Huffman and his wife, Mary, Great Bend.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura A. Huffman on Dec. 1, 2001; and a step-daughter, Debbie S. Kepford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Charter Funerals in Great Bend with Pastor Ken E. Gray officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery north of Great Bend. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
