ELLINWOOD — Frederick W. Feist, 83, died Oct. 14 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1927, in rural Claflin, the son of Anthony L. and Eva Christoph Feist. He married Katherine Kimpler on Nov. 11, 1952, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ellinwood. A lifetime Barton County resident, he was a retired welder and a partner in Rollins Bit Service, Ellinwood. He also was a driver for the senior citizens’ bus, Ellinwood.
Mr. Feist was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, all of Ellinwood. He served as a U.S. Army medic during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Kate, of the home; three sons, Peter Feist of Raymore, Mo., Greg (Sharon) Feist of Great Bend and Phillip (Donna) Feist of Gardner; four daughters, Joan (Douglas) Panning and Donna (Dan) Mason, all of Ellinwood, Karen (Wayne) Habiger of Bushton and Nancy (Craig) Schartz of Denver, Colo.; five brothers, Richard Feist of Claflin, Marvin Feist of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Martin Feist of Austin, Minn., Lawrence Feist of Denver and Sam Feist of Arkansas City; two sisters, Marilee Huslig of Ellinwood and Catherine Doll of Garden City; 14 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Linus and Junior Feist, and a sister, Elva Rose Feist.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Father Charles Mazouch officiant. Burial was at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the Ellinwood Emergency Medical Service, the St. Joseph School Living Legacy or to the church.
