CLAFLIN — Garry L. Simpson, 60, died Jan 19, 2015, at his home in Claflin. Born July 18, 1954, in Columbia, N.C., he was the son of Howard and Beulah (Stevenson) Simpson. A resident of Claflin since 2002, coming from Roper, N.C., he was a nurse, working for Washington County Hospital and Central Kansas Medical Center, and formerly owned and operated Prairie House Flowers and Gifts.
Survivors include his partner, Gary Bittner of Claflin; two brothers, Daniel “Pete” Simpson and Howard Simpson, both of Roper, N.C.; two sisters, Phyllis Broyles and her husband James, and Janie Williams and her husband Raymond, both of Roper, N.C.; and loving pets, Sophie and Keeshan. He was preceded in passing by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Simpson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington with the Rev. Kris Brinlee officiating. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery in Olmitz. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday with a wake service to follow at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, Clara Barton Hospital Foundation or USD 112 to benefit the tennis program, in care of the funeral home.
