SEDALIA, MO. — Gary Edwin Mesker, 69, of Sedalia, Mo., died Monday, March 21, 2016. Born Aug. 11, 1946 at Wichita, he was the son of Bill Edwin Mesker and Ginger Hoskins Mesker.
On Jan. 12, 1969, in Wichita, he married Katy Dunnington, who survives of the home.
Gary had been self-employed in the oil fields in Kansas and in car sales. He also drove a school bus in Sedalia. He was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Joelle Bertschy (Mark), of Knob Noster, Mo., Brett Mesker (Brenda), of Wichita, and Jason Mesker (Shannon), of Lawrence; six grandchildren, Layne and Paige Bertschy, Slayde, Jackson, Olivia and Parker Mesker; his father, Bill Mesker and his wife Myleena, of Wichita; a brother, Mike Mesker; and a sister, Pam Mesker Pierce.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ginger Hoskins Mesker, and his mother- and father-in-law, Betty and Dean Dunnington.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 25, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Glenn Sparks officiating.
Honorary bearers will be Jim Hoskins, Harry Adams, Jeff Piland, Richard Davidson, John Miller and Travis Postlethwaite. Gary will be laid to rest in Rest Haven Cemetery in Wichita at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Heckart Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Alzheimer’s Association or Crossroads Hospice.
