George Alan Winter

George Alan Winter, 81, passed away Jan. 5, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born Sept. 24, 1939, at Wichita to Edgar and Edna (Miller) Winter. He married Mary Lee Ryan Dec. 21, 1963, at Hays.  

He grew up near Boyd and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1957. He attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, where he got his masters degree in education and met his wife Mary. They moved to Great Bend in 1964 and he taught industrial arts at Otis Bison High School until 1978. He started Winter Home Construction which he ran for 40 years before retiring in 2018. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church and liked gospel music. He enjoyed working and going to the farm as well as spending time with his family. He loved to connect with others and offer help and encouragement to those in need.

Survivors include, his wife Mary Lee Winter; a daughter, Lisa Vance and husband Judd of Wichita; a son, Brad Winter; a sister, Arlene Anderson of McPherson; and two grandchildren, Sara Vance and Erin Vance. He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place, however, friends may sign the register book at Bryant Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date. Memorials have been designated to Almost Home or Central Kansas Dream Center, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
