George Russel Shelton

ST JOHN — George Russel Shelton, age 91, passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022 in St. John, Kan. He was born on Dec. 7, 1930 in Arnett, Okla. He was the son of Andrew Guy and Pearl (Nichols) Shelton. George served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. On Dec. 29, 1955 he married Shirley J. (Sigler) in Borger, Texas. George was a resident of St. John, Kan. since 1969 coming from Minneola, Kan. George was a minister, realtor, mail carrier, Phillips Chemical employee and a bus driver for the St. John School District.  

He was a minister of the Church of Christ and member of the Kansas Realtor Association. George will be missed by his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Michelle (Richard) Brensing, Stafford, Kan., Natalie Lippoldt, St. John, Kan., Shannon (Darrell) Bauer, Hudson, Kan., Kari (Craig) Smith, Great Bend, Kan., Krista (Rick) McGaugh, Fayetteville, Ark. and a son, Jacob (Kelly Lynn) Shelton, Charlotte, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; a son, Russel Dean Shelton; brothers, Calvin, Owen, Dennis, Joe, Jay Roger, and John Shelton and a sister, Hazel Campbell. 

George enjoyed his life surrounded by his family and friends. His faith, love and passion of people will live on forever. Everyone that knew George had a loving story to tell about him. 

Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 26, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, St. John, Kan. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022 at the Church of Christ, St. John, Kan. Memorials may be given to Silver Maple Camp or Stocking Stuffers of Central Kansas in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS.
