HOLYROOD — Gladys M. Phelan, 56, passed away Sept. 11 in Hoisington. Born July 25, 1957, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Theodore and Viola (Kuhn) Popp. Gladys spent most of her life living in the Holyrood area. She was a special education teacher at Jefferson Elementary School in Great Bend. On June 12, 1982, she married Mark Phelan at Chase. He survives.
Mrs. Phelan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Altar Society of Holyrood, NEA, and KNEA.
Other survivors include daughters, Kiely Phelan of Kansas City, Molly Dohrman and husband Heath of Lyons, Katharine Phelan of Kansas City, Kinsey, Phelan of Manhattan, and Reagan Phelan of the home; sisters, Ruth Miller and husband Donnie of Chase and Betty Fowler and husband Lee of Guymon, Okla.; and brothers, Don Popp and wife Cindy of Omaha, Neb. and Mark Popp and wife Tonya of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin with Father Dan Scheetz, Father Charles Steier and Father Jarett Konrade officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. A closed casket visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Friday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth. A vigil is planned for 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holyrood. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Kansas Special Olympics, in care of the funeral home.
